Training with difference matters

I have facilitated hundreds of workshops for students, staff and faculty at Queen's University (Kingston, ON), in the Kingston community, and for other organizations and institutions across Canada. My goal in any workshop is that each participant leaves thinking differently, feeling differently, or acting differently, and hopefully all three.


I am able to facilitate both in-person (my preference) and online (my second preference!) and can offer customized training (variable lengths depending on need) on aspects of the following:


Diversity, inclusion, and belonging 

I am energized by our differences and find nothing more satisfying than helping groups and individuals understand how diversity makes teams more creative, collaborative, and successful, and makes life more interesting for all of us. Something I feel sets me apart as a diversity trainer is that I can't talk about diversity without including everyone in the room as a part of it, and I can't talk about inclusion without talking belonging means and what it might mean to someone else. 


Communication

Edward T. Hall said "Culture is communication and communication is culture", meaning, in a very basic sense, that everything we do and say communicates something about us to those around us. Communication is complicated, and unraveling that complication helps us get better at it. 

Communication training can focus on the basics (how we do it better), on being more assertive, on improving our interactions with diversity, on conflict, on influence, on expressing ourselves clearly, or any combination of the above. 


Leadership

We start developing our leadership skills with our first group of friends. That may be extreme, but I very much enjoy exploring how we can consciously and conscientiously lead from any position in life, and the satisfaction we get from being strong leaders is not necessarily dependent on a high level of power. When teams and individuals understand the leadership potential in everyone, they will succeed.

At the moment, I am particularly interested in intercultural leadership, that is leading groups to higher levels of inclusion and belonging, and women in leadership.


If we engage in a training relationship, my process includes extensive consultation (all included in my fee) so that your group gets the training they need. After an initial conversation, I will provide a workshop title, learning outcomes, and a detailed outline. We will work together on the content until you are satisfied with the training I will deliver.
